Preparing food in Bokola & Kaniche

Food preparation takes time, and is often delayed due to the long walk for water. In both communities, like in much of Malawi, pounded Maize meal or Nsima is the staple food for most people. It is time consuming to prepare and requires water.

In these two pictures we see lunch being prepared:

This communal way of doing things helps to make the job easy for them.

Some take it straight to the maize mill without pounding while others pound to have whiter flour.

eating Nsima

Community members of Bokola always prepare their lunch around 2pm sometimes even 3pm because they spend much time at the tiny scoop waiting to collect water. Big Dig campaign will solve this problem and the children of this village will have healthy lives.
