The impact of unsafe water affects children in many ways

In these two photos we see Patrick, aged 10 preparing food for his brothers and sisters while his mother is away fetching water from the scoop.  Care of their brothers and sisters often falls to older children who are forced to grow up quickly and contribute by working or caring for others.  As the summer holidays finally arrive in the UK  our ten year old children are spending their days with their friends having fun and preparing for holidays.  In Bokola and Kaniche children like Patrick will continue to work every day until clean safe water arrives.

Its not only unsafe water from the scoop which is making the children of Bokola and Kaniche sick, even the food which is sometimes not well prepared by their brothers or sisters. Patrick aged ten cooking nsima while his mother has gone to collect water at the tiny scoop
